Job Description
Operates various items of engineering and ordnance equipment in the construction and maintenance of ranges, moving and/or transporting heavy, bulky and oversized material and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Transports and dispenses fuel as required.
* Operates engineering equipment: scrapers, graders, tractor and trailer combinations (80,000 pound to 250,000+ pound) (includes flat bed, low boy, articulated, and roll-off), compactors (steel wheel, vibratory, pneumatic, or sheeps-foot) dump trucks, loaders (tracked or wheeled), Agricultural tractors with mowers (bat wing or gang reel), lawn mowers (push mowers), sub-compact tractors, zero-turn mowers, backhoes, hydraulic excavators [HYEX] (tracked or wheeled), bulldozers (4-way blade), bulldozers (6-way blade), excavators (truck mounted... aka Gradall), multi-terrain loaders (tracked or wheeled)(aka skid-steer), equipment with integrated tools (encompasses all above where applicable): hydraulic hammers, hydraulic saws; tree clearing/ brush clearing blades, flails, or cutters; metal shearers, rock crushers, snow plows, salt spreaders, and lifting devices.
* Operators also shall utilize powered pioneer tools such as chain saws and string trimmers.
* Shall read, understand, and execute plans, blueprints, and specifications. These include erosion and sediment controls, road or test course specifications, new construction, maintenance efforts, novel and complex designs.
* Ability to determine tactics techniques, and procedures to undertake mission related construction practices associated with developmental test operations using standard and non-standard industrial construction equipment. This includes government furnished, military variants and, compliance with State or Federal regulations regarding safety and environment.

* Executes land clearing, tree and brush clearing, grading, and excavating to clear and grade areas, remove earth, slope banks, dig ditches and level roadbeds in support of ATC test programs.
* Constructs berms and firing pads, parking pads, maintains roadways, and clears snow and debris as required.
* Uses equipment attachments such as winches, grading blades, and trail blazing blades.

* Performs operator preventive maintenance on assigned equipment according to applicable military -10/-20 standards or in accordance with manufacturers' maintenance manuals.
* Operates heavy equipment such as clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with box blades, plows, rakes, mowing, cutting, disc, and scraper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load or move dirt, gravel or other materials.
* Operator must read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans.
* Operators shall grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
* Operators will serve as escorts and guards for vehicles being transported throughout the US and Canada.

* Operates motor vehicles with responsibility for proper loading, unloading, and performs preventive maintenance.
* Operates truck tractors semi-trailers to transport heavy, bulky and oversized materials and equipment such as armor plate, track laying vehicles, and aircraft fuselages to on-post locations and off-post locations such as Churchville, Edgewood, throughout the United States and Canada.
* Operates heavy-duty trucks (4 ton and over) to transport materials and equipment to various areas within the installation.
* Delivers test items across United States and Canada and may be TDY for extended times.
* Operates 10-ton tractor with 20-ton tank trailer, which carries up to 5,000 gallons of gasoline and/or diesel fuel to make scheduled daily and weekly deliveries to on-post locations and off-post locations such as Edgewood and Churchville.
* Dispenses proper amount of fuel from truck to storage tanks in accordance with correct operating procedures.

* Operates aerial platforms to lift, move, emplacement of guns, armor plate, and for forestry type operations. Aerial platforms are used where ladders are not practical.
* Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material.
* Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
* Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook.
* As a rigger, gives directions to Bridge-or-Gantry-Crane-or- Mobile-Crane Operator or Hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, radio, or telephone.

* Set up, braces, shackles, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.
* Operates forklifts up to and in excess of 50,000 pounds.
* Operators shall perform operator level preventative maintenance, checks, and services (PMCS, US Army equivalent to -10).
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

* Must have 5 yr. experience as a heavy equipment operator.
* Must have at least 1500 hours of operating experience with engineering/construction equipment, (may include combat, tactical), heavy earthwork kit and Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
* Shall possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) endorsed for Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and Tanker.
* Shall possess a license to operate forklift(s) and other required support equipment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

* The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment.
* Must be capable of sitting, sometimes for extended periods while performing duties.
* Must be able to lift 75 lbs. unassisted.
* Must be able to ascend and descend equipment.
* Must be able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
* Must be able to repeat the same movements.
* Must have good manual dexterity.
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and periodic retests.
* Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.

Rate of Pay/Benefits

Hourly Rate: $40.08
