Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Project Management Staff Member who will focus on supporting the Material Plasma Exposure eXperiment (MPEX) project. The role involves working closely with the Project Manager and the project Control Account Managers (CAMs) to ensure project execution meets Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. The position resides in the Project Management Division in the Laboratory Director's Office of Operations at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

ORNL is the largest DOE science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. Our diverse capabilities span a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines, enabling the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support project manager and project director in facilitating and coordinating project activities, and project reporting

  • Work with project staff to develop and maintain schedules, cost estimates, accruals, and change control

  • Provide day-to-day support to the project with schedule and cost maintenance and status, and forecasting

  • Provide monthly reports on project status and performance

  • Provide variance explanations and critical path and near critical paths

  • Perform ad-hoc activities as directed by the project manager, project director, or CAMs

  • Support the project management staff and CAMs in preparing for various project reviews, including internal and external project status reviews.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree in project management, business, engineering or equivalent combination of education, experience, and specialized training will be considered.

  • Eight years of experience successfully performing project controls duties as noted above.

  • Solid understanding of project controls best practices regarding scope, time, cost, change and risk management.

  • Experience supporting the performance of scope management, planning & scheduling to include resource and procurement planning, estimating/cost management, risk management and project performance monitoring and reporting.

  • Strong communications skills, with the ability to successfully interact with DOE, project reviewers, senior laboratory management and senior project staff members

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A MS degree in project or construction management, business, science, engineering or equivalent.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Eight to twelve years experience successfully performing project controls duties as noted above.

  • Significant hands-on experience with: Oracle Primavera P6, Deltek Cobra or similar cost processors, risk analysis and simulation software, change control applications, and custom system and report development.

  • Project experience preparing and participating in IPRs and EVMS surveillance reviews.

  • Project experience working within an EVMS environment compliant with EIA-748.
