The Aquatics Program Instructor is responsible for the education and safety of participants in the Swim Lesson Program. Swim lessons include water exploration and confidence, stroke development and refinement, endurance and safety knowledge. Reports to: Aquatics Program Director Essential Job Functions: 1. Assist in the planning and implementation of swim instruction. 2. Ensure safety of all individuals in and around the pool. Enforce rules and keep order within the facility to accomplish this function. 3. Work cooperatively with students, families and staff to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. 4. Maintain all required certification and licenses. ARC Lifeguard Training is a requirement after hire. 5. Promote acceptance of differences among students, staff and/or community members. 6. Knowledgeable of the Aquatics Facility Emergency Action Plan and understand how to respond to emergencies in a professional and mature manner. 7. Ability to create a fun and positive learning environment for swimming instruction. 8. Ensure consistency within program by instructing according to lesson plan skill objectives. 9. Understand how to educate lesson participants at the specified swimming level and ability. 10. Participate in the water during instruction. This involves demonstrating, assisting students, and being a positive role model. 11. Complete all necessary forms for documentation of shift detail. 12. Responsible for the facility opening and closing on time and lessons starting and ending on time. 13. Properly secure the facility at closing time. 14. Set up and take down all equipment needed during the shift. This includes, but is not limited to lane lines, kickboards, fins, etc. Organize equipment at end of shift. 15. Perform necessary clerical tasks, which may include, but are not limited to typing, copying, filing, data entry, and preparing and displaying instructional information. 16. Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training. 17. Comply with the staff rules and procedures as defined in the employee handbook. Marginal Job Functions: 1. Job Requirements Qualifications:
1. Current certification in ARC Water Safety Instructor (ages 17 & older) or ARC WSI Aide (ages 17 and younger) 2. Current certification in First Aid and CPR from a nationally recognized association (AHA, Red Cross etc.) 3. Prior experience with swim instruction or involvement/participation in an organized swim environment 4. Ability to respond to emergencies in a professional and mature manner 5. Effective communication and leadership skills 6. Ability to follow directions Requirements of Essential Functions: Occasional (1-33%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting reaching and stair climbing in order to perform essential job functions Lifting: 0 -10 pounds Constantly (66-100%) 10 - 25 pounds Frequently (34-66%) Over 50 pounds Occasionally (1-33%) Candidate Requirements
