UCLA Health seeks a visionary leader to serve as its Chief
Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO) This unique position offers the
opportunity to shape and drive AI vision and strategy for UCLA Health's renowned
hospital system. Reporting dually to the Chief Information Officer and the
Chief Data & Analytics Officer at UCLA Health Sciences and working closely with
the senior executive team this collaborative leader will work with health
system faculty, staff and trainees to harness the power of AI to transform
healthcare delivery.

UCLA Health is one
of six health systems in the University of California, and encompasses 34,000
employees, 4,600 total faculty, nearly 1,500 residents and fellows, and 5,100
nurses. The UCLA Hospital System includes 5 hospitals and over 280 clinics in
the region and supports 3.6 million outpatient visits each year.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead
    the development and execution of a comprehensive AI strategy for UCLA
    Health that aligns with organizational priorities and goals
  • Recommends
    tools and strategies to allow UCLA Health to be a leader in the use of AI
    to transform health care by improving patient safety, quality, customer
    service, efficiency and value-based care.
  • Collaborate
    with diverse stakeholders to define and develop a build vs. buy AI roadmap,
    based on market landscape, for different business units within UCLA Health.
    Examples include patient progression, promoting access, finance, HR, and ancillary
    departments.
  • Cultivate
    relationships with community partners, technology companies, other
    academic institutions, and funding agencies to support AI. Explore and
    promote joint venture opportunities to co-develop AI tools with industry
    partners.
  • Ensure
    compliance with ethical, state, federal, and regulatory requirements in
    collaboration with UCLA Health's Office of Health Informatics &
    Analytics (OHIA) and the UCLA Health AI Council (HAIC). Champion the
    ethical and just use of AI in clinical trials, research studies,
    education, clinical operations, and other emerging application areas.
  • Partner
    with DGSOM AI efforts to ensure the overall UCLA Health AI roadmap and
    implementation is done in a collaborative and cohesive manner.
  • Represent UCLA Health in healthcare and AI forums.
    Build strategic partnerships with relevant organizations and shape
    the organization's image regarding AI innovation and thought leadership.
  • Facilitate employee training programs and
    awareness initiatives to educate staff about AI, including ethical
    guidelines and data privacy regulations relevant to AI.

Qualifications

Qualifications:


  • Deep
    understanding of clinical and business operations in a complex AMC.
  • Documented
    experience driving AI innovation and translation of AI into the clinical
    domain.
  • Deep understanding of AI technologies, including machine
    learning, natural language processing, large language models, and
    retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Proficiency in data science, including statistical
    analysis, predictive modeling, and data visualization.
  • Demonstrated
    leadership skills in a complex and highly matrixed organization.
  • Proven
    ability to build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
    including senior executives, clinicians, research faculty, trainees, and
    staff.
  • Masters
    degree or above required.

The University of California, Los Angeles is
required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this
role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are
considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to
experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and
certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical
for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a
position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications
and experience. The full salary range for this position is $157,400 to $380,600.
