Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the Lab Supervisor supervises the computer lab environment.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop regular maintenance procedures on lab equipment
  • Project budget expenditures
  • Identify and investigate emerging trends in computer lab technology and use
  • Identify ways to improve use of the labs
  • Supervise and schedule student lab assistants
  • Develop formal training procedures of student lab assistants
  • Develop and maintain the Student Lab Assistant Handbook
  • Plan and implement academic help material and training for faculty and students
  • Coordinate the development of the material and training sessions
  • Develop tools to assess training effectiveness
  • Support faculty and students in the use of academic computing technology
  • Respond to faculty and student requests and proactively seek faculty and student input on academic computing issues
  • Work within a tight timeframe
  • Develop a method of tracking faculty and student support requests
  • Maintain lab software and license agreements
  • Prepare and administer user surveys
  • Perform analysis on hardware and software
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field and one year of demonstrated computer support experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience are required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise work
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to train other employees
  • Ability to identify problems, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and develop effective solutions
  • Familiarity with the basic theory and operation of computers and computer software
  • Ability to present moderate technical information as well as have working knowledge of a combination of, Windows, MAC, UNIX, Internet, desktop publishing, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to utilize post-instructional evaluation methods to improve training effectiveness and productivity
  • Ability to install any software application using only accompanying documentation and to assemble, setup and configure hardware
  • Clear understanding of networking concepts
  • Ability to write internal technical documentation and participate in the creation of end-use documentation

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed inside in a non-smoking facility
  • Must be able to alternate work positions between sitting, standing, and walking on an as needed basis
  • Requires medium work: lifting up to 50lbs; talking; seeing; and hearing.
