Recruitment/Posting Title Postdoctoral Associate - Metabolomic Profiling & Chemical Analysis
Department Pharm-Pharmacology&Toxicology
Salary Commensurate With Experience
Posting Summary
A postdoctoral associate position is available in the research group of Dr. Lauren Aleksunes in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology/Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute ( EOHSI), Rutgers University, to perform metabolomic profiling using multiple MS platforms. The candidate will also be part of an interdisciplinary team that provides analytical support using small molecule and metal assays in the chemical analysis facility. Training in analytical chemistry, especially instrument maintenance, is required, and experience in instrument modification is a plus. Providing support to other users of this instrumentation will also be required, so demonstrated instructional capability is also expected. The ideal candidate will have experience in multiple analytical MS platforms and a working knowledge of all instrumentation required to create metabolomic profiles and incorporate small molecule-to-protein MS data. GC/MS LC/MS, IMS, ICPMS (speciated) techniques will all be used to provide input data into these profiles, so experience in the operation/optimization/modification of these instruments will be required of the holder of this position. Programming of library search protocols using the appropriate languages will be required as well as using AI-based learning approaches to provide feedback to MS methods. The ultimate goal will be to acquire data used for the unambiguous identification of unknown MS features from various cell lines and tissue specimens. The applicant should also be able to describe their defined approach to feature prioritization toward metabolomic profile creation.
Rutgers University, one of the largest research universities, offers an exceptional research environment with outstanding resources and facilities to support state-of-the-art research. Both Dr. Aleksunes' home department and EOHSI are nationally and internationally recognized for their basic and clinical research on pharmacology, toxicology, and exposure science. Dr. Aleksunes' research team has access to outstanding facilities of Genomics, Genetics, Proteomics, Confocal and high-content imaging, Histopathology, Analytical Chemistry, Flowcytometry, etc. This rich research ecosystem, combined with Rutgers University's excellent career development and training environment for postdoc researchers, makes it an ideal place for aspiring researchers to grow and thrive.
