The Machine Bindery Operator plays a crucial role in the printing industry. Reporting to the Bindery Supervisor, their primary responsibilities involve the setup, operation, and maintenance of various types of machine bindery equipment such as saddle stitchers, perfect binders, cutters, and folders. They are tasked with ensuring that finished printed materials meet the required specifications outlined in job tickets. This includes assembling, finishing, and packaging jobs according to specified instructions. Overall, their role is essential for producing high-quality printed materials efficiently and accurately.

The Machine Bindery Operator's essential duties encompass a range of tasks crucial to the smooth operation of the bindery department:




  1. Review Job Ticket Specifications: Thoroughly examine job tickets to understand the requirements and gather necessary supplies and materials for each job.



  2. Setup and Operation: Set up and operate machine bindery equipment, including any in-line machinery, ensuring they are configured correctly to produce the desired output.



  3. Quality Monitoring: Continuously monitor the quality of the printed materials by comparing them to job ticket specifications. Prepare all necessary quality paperwork to document adherence to standards.



  4. Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect equipment during operation to identify any malfunctions or deviations from quality standards. Make adjustments as needed to ensure optimal performance.



  5. Basic Repairs: Perform basic repairs on machine bindery equipment if malfunctions occur during operation, minimizing downtime and ensuring the smooth flow of production.



  6. Material Handling: Move products in and out of the machines as required, maintaining workflow efficiency.



  7. Supervision: Provide supervision and guidance to any helpers or assistants working alongside them on the machines.



  8. Communication: Maintain clear communication channels with Bindery Supervisors and Client Service staff, addressing any concerns or questions related to ongoing jobs promptly and effectively.



  9. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of production counts and work hours for each job, ensuring compliance with organizational protocols and standards.




By diligently executing these essential duties, the Machine Bindery Operator contributes to the timely and efficient production of high-quality printed materials, meeting client expectations and organizational objectives.
