What You Can Expect

As our Construction Management, II (CM) at The University of Iowa you will have the critical role of managing safe efficient construction projects across the University of Iowa Campus. These projects are focused on Energy and Utility improvements and are located on the Main and Oakdale campus and include the University Hospital.

This position is being hired in support of a 50 year concession agreement to operate, maintain and enhance the University of Iowa's utility system. The projects you'll take on will involve numerous and diverse projects in the areas of electric and thermal energy production and distribution, and storm and wastewater infrastructure.

No two days will be the same, you will be conducting meetings with employees, subcontractors and the University or other stakeholders, preparing and executing Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control plans for Capital Improvement and efficiency projects, this includes provisions for site access and security credentials or traffic control to the work areas. Before breaking ground, you will be walking job sites and coordinating with GIS analysts and locators to make sure buried utilities are properly identified and that construction work and job safety plans take these potential hazards into account. During construction phase you will be walking the jobsites checking on safety and project completion, consulting with Engineers, Contractors, and Project Management ensuring that the project meets standards and code, conforms to our approved specifications and drawings. A key part of the role will involve communicating with project stakeholders on the progress, issues and concerns and to work through them collaboratively. When the project work involves taking a service outage, which happens often, you'll need to coordinate the outage with stakeholders well in advance using established processes. Every step of the way, you'll be expected to provide a QA/QC oversight of the work, to ensure the work meets specifications and passes required inspections.

As the project wraps up, you will lead the punch list and commissioning processes.



  • Support bidder site visits during the contracting phase and manages Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Support cost estimation and scheduling for projects in development/design
  • Support the Project Manager with Technical/Commercial oversight Including:

    • Review of change requests, directives
    • Review of monthly payment applications from Contractors and Construction Administrators


  • Opine on constructability through the review of Contractor plans, determining if special operator access or maintenance provisions are required
  • Provide field input to assist the project manager in tracking and reporting of schedule and budget performance during the construction phase
  • Partner with project engineers to develop a project procedures manual, providing the framework for construction addressing mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation & controls and administrative fundamental requirements



What You'll Bring



  • You will have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in the successful management of industrial or municipal construction projects in which you gained a practical understanding of design, construction and operations of thermal plants and distribution
  • You will have experience in fostering and adhering to the highest safety standards, ensuring the safety of all employees, contractors, and the general public
  • You will have demonstrated ability to create a team culture of camaraderie, integrity and trust among the integrated project team members and exhibits excellent interpersonal skills that include listening to other's ideas and viewpoints and the resolution of conflict situations
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and ensure performance expectations and resultant outcomes are met
  • Experience in evaluating request for quotes / request for proposals in industrial construction environments
  • Experience in construction projects, working at sites, managing subcontractors, contracts administration and change management
  • You will have gained experience creating presentations and professional communications, using Microsoft Office, Procore, or other Project Management tools, to create written reports, project updates, and reporting data for all stakeholders including contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies
  • Practical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills

  • Not eligible for ENGIE Hybrid Schedule
  • This position is requires daily presence on active construction sites.
  • Remote work is available only by exception
  • Some Night or weekend work is possible based on project schedules
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • OSHA 10 certification is required within first 30 days, OSHA 30 certification within one year of hiring
  • Must possess a valid state issued driver's license and clean driving record
  • This role requires the safe operation of company vehicles
  • The position consists of 50% work indoors and 50% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions
  • Occasional walking less than one mile
  • Ability to access confined spaces and areas of varying temperature
  • Could involve some lifting



Compensation

Salary Range: $74,500 - $114,195 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
