Job Description:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Work Experiences:

  • 5+ years previous payroll work experience
  • Workday payroll experience highly desired
  • FPC/CPP preferred
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and math principles
  • Knowledge of payroll principles
  • Knowledge of laws governing payment of wages

  • Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively contribute to a team environment
  • Analytical with strong problem solving abilities and creative resolution skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure while consistently meeting time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to remain organized, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work on multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Strong Microsoft Office program experience, including Excel and Word

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing payroll for specific groups as assigned
  • Act as team lead and be available to offer guidance/direction to less experienced team members
  • May be asked to assist with entering/reviewing/balancing payroll transactions of less experienced team members
  • Responsible for reviewing/balancing 401k, direct deposit, and accounting files
  • Work with auditors and other outside agencies to provide payroll support or resolve payroll issues
  • Handle payroll escheatment process
  • Assist with/research GL interface and other accounting inquiries
  • Validate and reconcile incoming payment files (EIB's)
  • Maintain time and attendance and other payroll support records and archive/file as needed
  • Input payroll data, including deductions and changes to earnings, for payroll processing
  • Understand what deductions reduce taxable wages, or earnings that are not taxable
  • Research payroll issues found on exception reports and take/document corrective actions
  • Respond to questions from team members regarding issues affecting their pay
  • Support time off inquiries and assist team members with incoming questions regarding leave balances
  • Maintain hard-copy and electronic payroll files
  • Create/distribute reports as needed
  • Verify deductions from team members' pay for 401k loan repayments
  • Basic understanding of garnishments/disposable income and viewing garnishments withheld
  • Prepare direct deposit and check files for final review/approval of payroll management
  • Calculate and review in detail bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll runs looking for exceptions/errors
  • Review retro pay results and determine if valid
  • Ensure payroll balancing occurs when payroll is processing/closed and outgoing payroll files tie back to payroll registers prior to releasing
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Academy's policies, procedures and safety rules
  • Flexibility with other tasks assigned while also meeting deadlines of critical payroll tasks
