Typical office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours on evenings/weekends as needed for meetings, presentations and special events to meet the needs of the department.

Position Summary
The Career Coach primarily provides career coaching to meet students' and alumni career development needs. The Career Coach will facilitate career development workshops and presentations in collaboration with campus partners at UNCA to help students and alumni achieve their career goals. This position oversees the Career Peer educator program, developing undergraduate students to provide first- line career education for peers within the Career Center. The employee is expected to utilize career development theories and best practices to expand the scope of the program. The Career Coach develops and implements outreach and marketing plans for the Career Center to engage in career education to students underserved and not currently impacted by present initiatives.

The following is an estimated breakdown of the responsibilities and duties that will make up the day-to-day work in this position:

  • Provide Career Coaching Services (40%)
  • Lead and expand the Career Peer program (25%)
  • Lead and expand Career Center outreach and marketing (15%)
  • Develop campus partnerships for presentations and workshops (10%)
  • Assist with planning and coordinating Events (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

FLSA Exempt
Required Education/Experience/Skills
Master's degree. Will also consider a bachelor's degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience. Prior experience working with college students.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Human Resources, or related field. Experience in program development, delivery and teaching. Experience working with college students and alumni.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, parents, alumni, and staff.
  • Effective communication with strong written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting is a plus
  • Familiarity with common marketing strategies (social media, newsletters, print and digital materials, etc.)
  • Direct experience with marketing and outreach is a plus
  • Knowledge and skills in career development theory, pedagogy, career coaching and learning theory.
  • Familiarity with online career technologies and tools (ONET, career assessments, job searching platforms).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data to evaluate and improve programs.
  • Ability to communicate the liberal arts mission and skills to constituents. Ability to articulate the needs and concerns of historically under-represented and ethnically diverse populations, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ individuals, women, veterans and non-traditional students.
