Job Description:

Position Title: Mechanical Assembly Technician

Position Overview

Responsible for assembly, functional validation and repair of complex electro-mechanical assemblies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly of small precision components
  • Test fitting and function testing of sub-assemblies for insertion into larger assemblies
  • Interpret schematic and technical drawings and diagrams, building and/or testing components to specifications
  • Understand and check BOM content for part numbering and descriptions for accuracy and completeness
  • Test equipment against specifications for assembly performance validation
  • Troubleshoot assemblies and components for correction and repair of assembled weld heads if needed
  • Implement technical solutions using safe and standard industrial practices
  • Set up effective test fixtures and tooling to complete assemblies, including but not limited to drilling, machining, dowel pin inserts, etc.
  • Route wiring through tight locations with detail to prevent wire pinching and stress through mechanical function ranges
  • Provide accurate labor time estimates needed to assemble or repair assemblies in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Document assembly/repair activities through appropriate record keeping systems as directed
  • For customized projects, flagged the discrepancies and report it through proper channel.
  • Excellent problem-solving skill with attention to detail
  • Identify and report trends and patterns to leadership and engineering with equipment assembly failures and problems
  • Complete assignments and tasks on time in accordance with repair schedules and Supervisor direction
  • Ensure the service process is fulfilling ESAB's commitment to delivering the highest level of product quality and customer satisfaction in the automated welding market
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition following the 5S method: Sort (Remove non-essentials), Set in Order (Organize remaining items), Shine (Clean, paint and polish work area), Standardize (Label and color code), and Sustain (Maintain changes and keep in order)
  • Work overtime as needed to meet critical deadlines and/or provide customer support in other time zones
  • Perform other duties as assigned and follow instructions

Qualifications

Language Capabilities

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English
  • Out of box thinking approach when working on customized projects.

Education Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • AA degree in a technical field preferred

Technical Requirements

  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for over the phone troubleshooting or written customer communication
  • Ability to read schematic and technical drawings or blue prints
  • Light lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Familiarity with assembly and measuring tools: calipers, drill press, bench press, brazing, hex keys
  • ERP experience; SAP preferred
  • Ability to read and understand complex instructions

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in assembly or repair on welding equipment; AMI Weld Head assembly experience or orbital welding experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding and application of welding principles; orbital welding experience preferred; welding certifications preferred

Mobility & Travel Requirements

  • <10% domestic travel for training purposes

Pay Range:

$59,576.00-$69,268.00
