Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of Child Watch leadership, the Child Watch Staff are responsible for providing safe and nurturing child care for all children entering the YMCA Child Watch in harmony with the mission statement and policies of the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Supervise children 6 weeks - 7 years of age.
  2. Represent the department by handling communications with parents and members.
  3. Identify individual needs of children and provide care accordingly.
  4. Encourage and involve children in appropriate group and/or individual play.
  5. Model and explain appropriate behavior. Address and redirect inappropriate behavior of children.
  6. Maintain participant attendance, emergency records and other documentation as assigned.
  7. Ensure safety and cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
  8. Develop positive relationships with parents and participants providing motivational support and guidance.
  9. At the discretion of the Child Watch Coordinator, attend staff meetings, workshops and seminars to increase knowledge and skills.
  10. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  11. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  12. Exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of job performance and in relationships with others.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Individuals in this job must have a passion for working with children and are at least 15 years old and have the following abilities: effectively communicate with members, parents, and children; exercise sound, mature judgment and stay alert to potential safety and security problems. Must be able to work with parents and children of diverse backgrounds, lift a minimum of 25 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, as well as sit on floor, bend, reach and actively engage with children on their level. Must be able to effectively communicate information of YMCA programs to members and participants. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
