The Office of International Affairs (OIA) develops and advances initiatives that support the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus vision as a leading public university with a global reputation for excellence in learning, research, and creativity, community engagement, and clinical care. OIA partners with the university's schools/colleges and with other university offices to align international student recruitment efforts and services, support academic programs, foster global educational partnerships, facilitate research collaborations and create global learning opportunities.

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) provides expert immigration advice to international students, scholars, hiring units, and the faculty and staff who educate and support them. ISSS is responsible for ensuring compliance with complex immigration rules and regulations when foreign nationals come to the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus to study, teach, conduct research, or engage in other academic pursuits. We engage outside counsel for all employment-based immigration cases.

This position provides administrative and immigration casework support to the International Student and Scholar Services unit by maintaining international employee files and database records. The position also assists with monitoring ISSS email accounts, managing communications and documentation from outside counsel, and other communications for international employees. The individual also applies knowledge of government rules and regulations, policies, processes, and procedures as they govern international employee case work and impact international employees at the University of Colorado | Anschutz Medical Campus.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of International Student & Scholar Services.

This is a full-time, at-will position.

International Services Coordinator

What you will do:

Immigration Casework (50% of time):




  • Assist with international employee record-keeping.



  • Handle intake of various forms/requests and channel them through proper work process.



  • Pre-screen intake requests for accuracy and completeness and follow up with beneficiaries and department contacts for missing documentation.



  • Assist with H-1B/TN/E-3/O-1 processing, managing communications from outside counsel, distributing USCIS receipt and approval notices, and withdrawing LCAs and petitions upon employee departure from the university.



  • Add new cases, assign cases and alerts to ISSS staff, and update Sunapsis at each stage of process.



  • Create public access files for H-1B petitions and maintain required documentation for other categories of nonimmigrant cases (E-3, O-1, TN).



  • Assist with employment-based permanent resident processing, including uploading request documents, assigning cases to ISSS staff, updating Sunapsis records at each stage of the process, and uploading LPR documents to Sunapsis.



  • Review and approve payment invoices for employment-based petitions filed by outside counsel.



  • Be an alternate responsible officer (ARO) for the J program and serve as back-up to the primary J advisor.




Administrative Support (50% of time):




  • Monitor and organize ISSS email accounts, refer requests and issues to appropriate staff members as necessary, and respond directly as appropriate.



  • Prepare reports of international employees for quarterly meetings with hiring units.



  • Coordinate the resolution of report and form issues and suggest content and workflow improvements.



  • Create and update Sunapsis e-forms and processes.



  • Under the direction and guidance of the Assistant Director, audit international employee files and records to verify consistency and accuracy and to ensure compliance with immigration rules and regulations.



  • Run reports and update institutional-level data related to international employees as requested.



  • Update Sunapsis records for individual international employees and archive completed and/or terminated records.



  • Assist with updating contact information for international employees and dependents as well as for department contacts.



  • Coordinate delivery and dissemination of documents and information among ISSS, Central HR, International Tax, beneficiaries, departments, law firms, and government agencies to ensure that critical information is timely shared.



  • Assist with logistics for H-1B Orientations, and other meetings, trainings, and events.



  • Organize communications for both regularly scheduled and special events for international employees and department contacts.



  • Assist with other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)




  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, humanities, business administration, international business, public administration, or a related field.



  • One year of experience interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds in a professional setting.



  • One year of experience using complex information systems, such as Sunapsis, to accurately maintain and analyze data and run reports.



  • One year of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook in a professional setting.




Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Substitution: A bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)




  • One year of professional experience in a higher education setting.



  • One year of professional experience with immigration processes including E-3, F-1, H-1B, J-1, J-2, O-1, TN, and LPR.



  • One year of experience using Sunapsis for scholar casework.



  • Fluency in a foreign language.

Conditions of Employment




  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.



  • This position follows a hybrid work structure. This position is required to work from one of OIA's campus locations three days per week and may work from home two days per week. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $50,580 - $55,905.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
