General Mechanic

As a part of our manufacturing group, you will be responsible for preventative and reactive maintenance of processing and packaging equipment and providing technical support to improve and optimize within the manufacturing operations and processes.

The General Mechanic works with the Maintenance Lead and the Line Team to improve safety and drive out top losses. The position will assist the Maintenance Lead with eliminating breakdown related losses, defect handling, and building capability in Operating Teams

Shift hours:

  • 12-hour shifts - 2 on followed by 2 off, 3 on followed by 2 off, 2 on followed by 3 off
    • 6:00 pm to 6 am night shift
    • Every other weekend is a 3-day weekend
    • Cycle length is 2 weeks
    • Ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, weekends, holidays and emergency events
      • OT Rate of 1.5 of payrate after 40 hours
    • Plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days per week

Pay:

  • $34.77per hour

    • Repair and maintain production equipment and facilities during assigned production shift in order to meet budget levels in quality and quantity
    • Maintain assigned paperwork
    • Complete assigned tasks and special projects

    • Promotes and exhibits strong housekeeping practices
    • Must report Safety, Food Safety, and Quality, Sustainability and Housekeeping problems to direct supervisor immediately
    • Actively participate in teams and on projects to improve the metrics for given area of responsibility
    • Assist Autonomous Maintenance process in plant
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Support maintenance foundational systems for the line(s), including Defect Handling, Breakdown Elimination, and Planning & Scheduling
    • Assist Maintenance Lead in execution of Line Team 90 Day Improvement Plan
    • Participate in Line Team meetings as needed
    • Provide support during planned stops
    • Adherence to Maximo data standards and use Maximo as a problem solving tool
    • Support Maintenance Lead in identifying recurring maintenance problems; recommend and execute solutions
    • Maintain clean work environment
    • Early management of downtimes, changeovers, cleans, preventative maintenance, etc.
    • Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on line equipment as well as reactive work when lines are down
    • Support engineering and capital project work as needed
    • Ability and aptitude to learn and perform jobs on and off the platform
    • Ability to learn and perform minor machining and welding, TIG, MIG, and ARC.

What you have to offer:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Proficient in English
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
  • Skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production equipment
  • Associate Degree or relevant or 2 years of experience with no degree
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of PLC operation, electrical components and systems troubleshooting, including use of a multimeter
  • Basic shop equipment (mill, lathe, grinder, presses, etc) preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred
  • Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends and holidays, including overtime as needed to support the plant
  • Must be able to purchase or have tools required for maintenance jobs per minimum requiremen
  • Seamer mechanic experience preferred

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
  • Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
