Summary

Dunmore is looking for an enthusiastic Continuous Improvement Intern to join our team. This role offers a great opportunity for students majoring in Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or other manufacturing-related fields to gain hands-on experience in the application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles. The CI intern will be involved in key projects such as Root Cause Countermeasure (RCCM) investigations, visual work instruction (VWI) creation, data collection for Kaizen events, and more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Facilitate RCCM investigations by recording notes and leading the conversation through strategic questioning to identify root causes and countermeasures.
  • Document agreed-upon action items and follow up on their execution.
  • Collaborate with the Training Coordinator to develop training materials on RCCM using platforms like Synthesia and upload them to Steel Grow University for employee training.
  • Work closely with the Training Coordinator to create and document visual work instructions for various manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure that existing documentation is formalized and integrated into the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Conduct time studies, observations, and data analysis as part of pre-work for upcoming Kaizen events.
  • Participate in Kaizen events focused on continuous improvement topics such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), or 5S+S.
  • Contribute to the implementation of process improvements identified during these events.
  • Participate in team meetings and workshops to gain insights into plant operations and industry best practices.
  • Travel and connect with interns from across the company at the Steel Partners intern summit.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to facilitate group discussions and drive conversations.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and note-taking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Interest in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies such as RCCM, TPM, SMED, and 5S+S.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.



Education and Experience



  • Currently pursing a degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or any manufacturing-related field
  • Experience or coursework related to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) or willingness to learn

  • Travel by air, rail, auto (5% of time)
  • Work in manufacturing area, QA lab and office areas
