Summary:

Under general supervision of the Supervisor the Operator Trainee is engaged in operating equipment in connection with receiving, storing, transferring, delivering petroleum and maintaining related records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:


  • Personally is engaged in the inspection and operation of mainline pumps, handling principal contacts and planning, guiding, coordinating with operations to meet operating requirements and prevent material contamination.
  • Coordinates product movement with Dispatching Department and shippers.
  • Makes visual checks of meters, gauges and pump station equipment.
  • Performs quality control, identifies product changes as required.
  • Responsible for helping maintain safe and healthful working conditions by exercising sound judgment and complying with safety regulations and standards.
  • Performs utility notification duties during off peak hours and weekends as required.
  • Assigned to 12 hour rotating shift as required. Subject to shift hold over or call out at all hours. Must be available to substitute on rotating shift as required during absences and for other coverage's required by operations
  • Must write legibly, maintain neat appearance, be accurate in math, and maintain a good safety attitude and record.
  • Must be able to perform heavy physical work, and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner outdoors in potentially extreme weather.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence.
  • Must be dependable, able to work with little or no supervision.
  • Must be familiar with basic hand tools and be able to operate all products testing equipment necessary to obtain accurate results. Uses and operates all pertinent safety equipment when performing duties in potentially hazardous areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Must be able to perform accurate calculations with use of a calculator.
  • Communicate clearly and work well with others.
  • Must be able to learn to operate personal computers and communications equipment.


Special Considerations:


  • Must reside within 45 miles of reporting location. The described job duties are a framework in which work will be assigned. This description is not inclusive of all responsibilities or job assignments. This position will require extended off-hour duties at times.

Required Education:



  • High school diploma or GED


Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.



  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Driving, walking, and standing frequently
  • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting
  • Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
