Description

The Supported Education and Employment Specialist will professional, quality program services to the clients served by the Compass team. Within the framework of the NAVIGATE model, the role provides Supportive Education and Employment services. Using person centered practices, education, advocacy and side by side assistance in navigating school and employment system, the Supported Education and Employment Specialist helps individuals identify and work towards their goals.

NAVIGATE is a comprehensive treatment program for people who have experienced a first episode of non-affective psychosis. Treatment is provided by a coordinated specialty care (CSC) team, which helps people work toward personal goals and recovery. The NAVIGATE program helps clients navigate the road to recovery from an episode of

psychosis, including supporting efforts to function well at home, on the job, at school, and in social situations.

The NAVIGATE team includes the following members: Director, Family Clinician, Prescriber, Supported Employment and Education (SEE) specialist, Individual Resiliency Training (IRT) Clinician, and Case Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients in seeking competitive employment and engagement in educational goals based on the NAVIGATE model of care.
  • Integrate the following principles and interventions into work completed with individuals served: Shared decision making, Collaborative Decision Making, Strengths and Resiliency Focus, Motivational Enhancement Skills, Psychoeducation Teaching Skills, CBT Skills Teaching, Partnering with Natural Supports.
  • Coach clients on communicating, engagement and participation in educational and employment systems, including assistance with needed paperwork.
  • Provide education on benefit eligibility and the impact of participation in work and school.
  • Provide assistance in identifying and incorporating financial impacts of work in school.
  • Coach client on development of job interview skills and assist with paperwork.
  • Work with the Compass team to integrate work and school related goals, objectives and interventions into the individual's treatment plan.
  • Work with clients on all aspects of psychiatric rehabilitation, support, and psychotherapeutic interventions identified in the treatment plan, including medication assistance and support.
  • Will provide coaching and education on independent living skills such as cooking, shopping, cleaning, personal hygiene, transportation, budgeting, organization, and housing as needed to facilitate participation and success in school and work related goals.
  • Train other team members about supported employment services.
  • Collaborate other Compass team members to promote the client's psychiatric recovery, physical and dental wellness goals.
  • Attend commitment and other court hearings as required. Complete required court reports, and testify when requested.
  • File reports with Vulnerable Adult, Child Protection, the Ombudsman's Office, and other mandated/required reports when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Substance Use and other specialty providers as needed to coordinate care and continued engagement in vocational and educational goals for clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatric care providers, mental health professionals, case managers and peer/family recovery specialists.
  • Actively and assertively engage with the clients and their family members/significant others, including schools and employers (with client approval).
  • Available to work evening as needed.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings.
  • Provide transportation when applicable to clients' treatment plan goals.
  • Promptly respond to email, text, and telephone communication.
  • Complete all documentation, reports, and charting contemporaneously and in an organized manner per Compass policy and procedure manual.
  • Participate actively in on-going professional growth and development; maintain appropriate professional behavior and participate in supervision as determined by supervisor.
  • Actively participate in the coordination and discharge planning with clients for IRTS, hospital, treatment, and other community services
  • Maintain a pattern of regular work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Behavioral Sciences or related field.
  • 2,000 hours supervised experience working with individuals with Mental Illness and substance abuse treatment

Preferred:

  • Education and/or experience provided supported employment and education services.
