Lab Prep Assistant

The University of Pittsburgh, Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences, is seeking a Technician to work with faculty members and undergraduate student laboratory assistants to complete all aspects of preparation for Foundations of Biology Laboratory courses. This will include (but not be limited to): preparation of course materials such as media, reagent aliquots, and sterile supplies; training and overseeing the work of undergraduate laboratory assistants; maintaining laboratory equipment; ordering supplies; and keeping up-to-date records of all purchases. In addition, the Technician will be responsible for trouble-shooting protocols and procedures in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, ecology, and others.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.


Essential Functions

Mixing laboratory chemicals, transporting laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies. Proficiency in computer work including Microsoft Office Suite and looking up job-related information on the internet.


Physical Effort

Ability to move in and out of various lab spaces. Lifting of laboratory equipment and supplies is required-approximately 30 lbs. A variety of sitting and standing.
